INVASION OF MAYFLIES.... BLACKING OUT THE SUN
This year's huge swarm of mayflies in the Mississippi Valley was one for the record books.The annual swarm rose above La Crosse, Wisconsin in a dark cloud that was so thick it caused a three-car crash,blacked out the sun and lit up area weather radar.
The swarm always causes problems when it rises from the river every year, but experts say this year's swarm was bigger than normal which is a good sign of water quality.
Like they do every year, the insects died off within a day or two and became a feast for the river’s hungry fish.
